Book Summary
In the country of Panem, previously known as North America, the Capitol hosts a reaping and draws two names from each District to compete in the Hunger Games, the government's annual televised killing sport that stifles any thought of revolution. Katniss volunteers to replace the lot drawn by younger sister, Prim, and becomes District 12's tribute to the reaping. She is paired with a young man, Peeta, to whom she is indebted. After being beautified and dramatically televised, the two are introduced and an unrealistic romantic storyline develops. The pair team up to survive, but doubt clouds their intentions as each does not know who will be the ultimate survivor.
